Configure Power BI gateway

Now that we have published our data to Power BI, we need to make sure that Power BI can keep retrieving the latest data. In this part, we will also explain how to set up a subscription for automatic data refreshes.

Configure Connection

Go to Data Visualization | Microsoft Power BI and log in to Power BI Service (1).

After successful login, go to Settings (1) > Manage connections and gateways (2).

Click on the New button to add the new connection (1).

Select On-premises (2), find the gateway cluster name in the dropdown menu (3) and select it, give your connection a name (4), and select Connect to AnywhereNow connector in the dropdown menu under connection type (5).

Note

If you are not seeing "Connect to Anywhere365" but "Anywhere365" you are using an older version of the AnywhereNow Power BI connector. Please replace the on-premises data gateway connector with the latest version:, see: Configure AnywhereNow connector for Power BI Gateway

Afterwards, restart the gateway.

Select the Regional endpoint your organization is using (1), check the Skip test connection box (2), click on edit credentials to authorize your connection with the data source (3), leave the privacy level to Organizational (4), and click the Create button (5).

If the creation of the new connection was successful, you will see a green notification in the top-right corner.

Open up Workspaces (1), select the Workspace where you have published your Report (2). In this case, it was published in My workspace.

Find your Dataset, click on the more options icon (1), and select settings (2)from the menu.

Expand the Gateway connections section (1), map the connection you have previously added to the gateway (2), and click apply (3).

Under the Data source credentials section, you will see that the admin has granted access to the data source.

Return to the Workspace you have published the Report, in this case My workspace. Click on the refresh button next to your Dataset (1). If the refresh is successful, you will see the last refresh time for your Dataset (2).

Setup subscription

You can also configure the dataset to be refreshed automatically. This can be done by clicking the Schedule refresh button (1)

Expand the Refresh section (1), turn on the Configure a refresh schedule, fill in the refresh frequency you want (3), and click Apply (4)

Power BI will now automatically refresh the data on the provided schedule.

You have now successfully configured the Power BI gateway and setup a subscription for automatic data refreshes.
